Cataract surgery is a modern procedure that is safe, fast, and is even pain-free. This is thanks to the research of the subject and advancements in medical technology.
During cataract surgery, the most you may feel is a slight tugging sensation. This can occur while the flap is being

created in your cornea. At most, it may cause some slight discomfort.
This is not to say there is no risk of pain during the surgery. The size and denseness of your cataracts may have some effect.
It is important to have frequent eye appointments as you get older to catch cataracts early on. If you do have cataracts, they are easier to monitor and remove when the timing is right.

Cataract Surgery Recovery

Once the anesthetic wears off and you begin recovery, your eyes may be itchy. It’s also common to feel some light pain. This will usually subside with in the first few days after surgery.
It is especially important to remember to not rub your eyes. The flap created during the surgery will be fragile for quite some time. Rubbing it or touching it could cause serious complications.
You should also wear the protective eye shield that will be given to you at the end of the surgery. You will likely be tired after the surgery, and the shield will prevent you from bumping your eye while you nap.
You will also need to be wary of your actions while you recover. In the first few days, even moderate activity can put enough strain on your eye to cause damage.
During the first few days, any lifting or even bending over at the waist will increase your eye pressure. Simply relax, rest, and maybe do some reading or watch some TV.

Avoid Exercising and Heavy Lifting

Heavy lifting and exercise are strictly prohibited for at least a couple of weeks. You will also need to be wary of getting anything in your eyes.
Even seemingly innocuous water can cause an infection. Water is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria! Try to shower with your eyes closed as much as possible.
Your doctor will let you know when you can resume your normal lifestyle as soon as it is safe to.

Attend All Follow-Up Appointments

It is important to go to all follow-up appointments after cataract surgery. This allows the doctor to keep track of your recovery effectively and accurately.
Anything that could potentially go wrong can be caught and dealt with early on. Your first visit will be scheduled within 48 hours after the surgery.
You will need more than one follow-up appointment to keep an eye on how your eyes are recovering. For some patients, recovering from cataract surgery can take only 8 weeks.
This number varies from patient to patient and if you have any complications.
